PADIL Association is pleased to announce that "SOAP KILLS," a short film by young director Momen Gharbi, has been selected for the official competition of the 7th Gabès International Environmental Film Festival, taking place from 6 to 9 November 2026 in Gabès, Tunisia.

A Film Born from the CINEMATOMEDIA Project

"SOAP KILLS" is one of the fruits of the project CINEMATOMEDIA – Cinema in the Service of Citizenship and Democratic Values, implemented from January 2024 to December 2025 under the Erasmus+ Youth programme. The project aimed to strengthen young people's civic participation and promote democratic values through media literacy and cinematic expression.

Training sessions, hands-on workshops, intercultural exchanges and audiovisual production activities encouraged young people to speak out on democracy, human rights, civic participation, social inclusion and cultural diversity. It was within this combined educational and creative framework that Momen Gharbi wrote and shot "SOAP KILLS," a committed short film carrying a strong civic message.

As part of its contribution, PADIL mobilised young people from the Bizerte region, particularly from Metline, and built local partnerships to broaden access to culture and non-formal education. Its collaboration with the Cultural Centre "Le Majestic" in Bizerte made it possible to organise screenings followed by debates, as well as awareness-raising activities around the works created by participants.

Thanks to this support, the young participants gained skills in screenwriting, filming, video editing and audiovisual communication, while also developing their critical thinking and civic engagement. "SOAP KILLS" now stands among the most accomplished productions to emerge from this initiative, carrying the voice and vision of young creators from the Bizerte region far beyond their home community.

A Recognition That Honours PADIL's Commitment

Honoured at the TABIR International Youth Film Festival (Amman, Jordan) on 5 and 6 November 2025, and then selected for the official competition of the 21st Chenini Mediterranean Film Days (JCMC), held from 21 to 25 October 2026, "SOAP KILLS" continues its journey with this new selection in Gabès. This triple recognition reflects the quality of PADIL's work in media literacy and in promoting youth creativity through cinema.

It also demonstrates in concrete terms the legacy of CINEMATOMEDIA, whose results and tools will continue to be shared and promoted in order to extend its impact: promoting democratic values, supporting young people's creativity and fostering intercultural dialogue within local communities.
